Description
This unit begins by introducing students to the plant and animal adaptations of spines, shells, and claws through observations. The observations will be supplemented using a Science Journal to record observations and reflect, reading expository books, showing videos, discussions, a water experiment to practice data collection, and an interactive review game. Next, the unit transitions to helping students to discover and understand the cycle of design as well as prepare them for the engineering of their final project. Then, the unit moves to a discussion of student problems that they might be able to solve with the adaptations they learned about and getting students to begin planning and engineering the solution to their problem. The unit is then wrapped up by having students present their final projects and reflect on their project building experience.
