Summary – Character Strengths
As we conclude this lesson on character strengths, there are a few points to consider. First, knowing your character strengths is as important as knowing your weaknesses.
Second, some character strengths will come to you more easily than others, and they may shift over time. Third, some situations require that you call on character strengths that are not your signature character strengths. And finally, each character strength has a shadow side that can get you in trouble, or limit you.
It is important to understand your strengths and use them effectively. This will help you build situational awareness so you can discern what is needed for various situations. It also helps increase the self-awareness that can enhance your co-teaching relationship.
It is also important to be aware of the shadow side of your character strengths. This will help you increase the effectiveness of your strengths by modulating when and how you access and implement them in various situations.
Whenever possible, notice the strengths you use as you continue to develop as an educator. You may have character strengths you didn’t know you had.
