Description
This unit was adapted from the Save the Penguins STEM Teaching Kit (Schnittka, 2009) with significant modifications. The unit takes what little knowledge students may have about what the idea of heat is and apply it against a multitude of misconceptions they have ranging from what it meant to have heat to various ways it can be transferred. The unit is also to let students feel valued by educating them about the global climate problem and rise of temperatures. Students will become engineers and design a dwelling for penguins. Students will test various materials gaining knowledge on how they can use the engineering design process to design a structure and test it in hopes to solve a complex problem.
