Grade 3: Animal Adaptation and Habitat (3-LS3)

Description

The unit we taught was on Animal Adaptation and Habitats at Ms. Tracie’s 2nd-grade class at Hooker Oak Elementary School, Chico, California. The students explored various animal adaptations and habitats through National Geographic videos on the Pangolin, Flying Squirrel, Fire Ants and the Flounder. They were able to do a 2-day observation on live Hermit Crabs, a Suckermouth Fish, a Red Bearded Dragon and Common Crickets. The students were tasked to do the following: 1) Identify the adaptations that each animal needs to survive, 2) describe the habitats that each animal dwell in, and 3) Identify the relationships between animal adaptations and the demands of their habitats.
