Description
This is a 7-day unit where students research about various animal characteristics and their habitats. Each day is meant to have students be hands-on and gather information on their own, but with guidance from their teachers. Throughout the unit students engage in realia, manipulatives, and various texts/books. Each day builds on the previous and scaffolds students to making their own discoveries. The goal is to expose students to the different types of characteristics animals have and prompt them to discussing/connecting animal characteristics with their ability to survive in a given biome. The overall goal is to provide students with the opportunity to gather their own information and learn how to construct a strong argument. During the unit students are also provided with time to practice building these arguments and become experts on the relation between animal characteristics and their survival in a biome.
