Description
This unit explores the intersection between physical science and engineering by having students apply their knowledge of the conservation and transfer of energy to the process of hydraulic mining. The students learn about mining and energy in relation to California’s rich history of gold mining. The students then use their knowledge to design and build a hydraulic mining device using common and inexpensive materials. Handouts and student work samples are provided.
