This unit was taught in a kindergarten classroom in Chico, CA. The overarching purpose of this unit was to support students in accessing the standards at a high level by moving beyond the standard and seeking real world solutions toward environmental justice. This unit supports students toward inquiry, problem-solving and the development of agency. Through the integration of arts and the 5E approach, students name environmental pollutants and seek solutions to the problems they pose. This unit culminates with students sharing their solutions in relation to the negative impact humans have on their environment concluding with individual solutions through film.
