Description
This is a 5-day unit where the students listen to three different versions of the Three Little Pigs story. The students compare the stories and brainstorm different ideas on how to build a strong structure for the little pigs. The students sketch out ideas with a partner on how to build their models; the students also share their ideas with the class. The following three days the students build their structures, with different materials each day. The first day they build with pasta noodles, the second day Popsicle sticks, and the third day sugar cubes. The students use tape on the first two days and use glue the last building day. The final day of the unit the teacher recaps the previous days and talks about how engineers go through the same process of sketching and building structures.
